Gaelic Bracket
Gaelic Harp Bracket
This was a solo project for my 1670 ME course. This project combined everything we had familiarized ourselves with in the course, including Freehand Sketching and SolidWorks Modelling, Rendering, Drawing, and Assembly. The prototype was then 3D printed, assembled, and presented.
The prompt was a piece of home decor with cultural influence in its design. Irish/Gaelic culture is what you get when you mix the cultures of the English, Scottish, and Anglo-Norman peoples. Many of the traditional Irish symbols are a blend of Catholic and Viking interpretation.
The focus of this design is the Harp, the national symbol of Ireland. The harp can be seen on the flag of Ireland, as well as on many Euros produced in Ireland. Also included is the symbol of the Triquetra (the Trinity Knot) on the top piece. According to the Catholics, it represents Unity and the Holy Trinity, although the symbol is believed to be much older than Irish Catholicism.
